This course is designed to prepare the student to provide emergency medical care at an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) level as outlined by the National Emergency Medical Services Education Standards. This course provides the student with basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide lifesaving interventions while awaiting additional EMS response and to assist higher level personnel at the scene and during transport. Students who complete this course successfully are eligible to apply for National Registry Emergency Medical Responder certification examinations. Prerequisites: Be at least 17 years of age at the time of enrollment. Must be able to speak, write and read English proficiently. A background check will be run by the state before awarding Iowa certification.
