This discussion examines the Supreme Court's role and relative power within the structure of the three branches of the Federal system. The discussion also will put today's tension between the Executive and Judicial Branches within historical context dating from the creation of the Constitution to recent court decisions.

Biography: Austin E. Owen Research Scholar & Professor of LawProfessor Henry L. Chambers, Jr., teaches and writes in the areas of constitutional law, criminal law, law and religion, and employment discrimination. He is active in the Virginia State Bar, including serving as chair of its Section on the Education of Lawyers from 2007-2009, and has been a member of the American Law Institute since 2002. Professor Chambers served as Special Assistant Attorney General for redistricting matters for the Commonwealth of Virginia from 2011-2013. Tom Donnelly

Biography: Assistant Professor of LawTom Donnelly teaches and writes in the field of constitutional law. His specialties include constitutional theory, American political development, civic education, and American constitutional history. To date, his scholarship has focused on a variety of topics, including popular constitutionalism, originalism, Supreme Court legitimacy, the role of the Supreme Court nomination process in the constitutional politics of Reconstruction, and the constitutional lessons that schools have taught American high school students over time.Professor Donnelly has served as a Climenko Fellow and Lecturer on Law at Harvard Law School, as the Chief Content Officer at the National Constitution Center, as a Lecturer in the University of Pennsylvania?s Department of Political Science, as Counsel at the Constitutional Accountability Center, and as a law clerk for the Hon.
