Course: How Do We Keep the Lights on: Worldwide Energy Production and Use (OSH-WRLDENRGY)
Energy use in the world continues to increase at a rapid pace. The desire for new data centers, more vehicles on the road and energy use in developing countries has put a premium on finding new energy sources and the efficient use of energy. This three-part discussion will describe a framework for participants to understand where energy is produced and used. The first session will concentrate on comparing fossil fuel, solar, wind, geothermal and nuclear energy production and distribution. The second session will focus on efficient energy use including technical advancements that are in current vehicles. The final session will be a series of vignettes describing exciting new technologies including a discussion of efficient energy use in data centers. This final session will also highlight activities going on right here in Richmond.
