Course: Navigating Today's Healthcare System: A Guide for Older Adults (OSH-OLDERADLTS)

Accessing healthcare has changed dramatically in recent years, leaving many older adults and their families feeling confused, frustrated, and overwhelmed. Between new technology, provider shortages, and ever-shifting systems, even simple tasks such as scheduling an appointment, getting a prescription refilled, or understanding insurance can feel daunting. In this interactive series, local physicians and healthcare professionals will share practical advice and insider perspectives to help you confidently navigate today's healthcare landscape. Each week will feature a different speaker and topic, addressing real-life situations and common challenges older adults face when seeking care. Sessions will include time for Q&A and discussion, with clear, actionable takeaways you can use right away. Topics may include: How to prepare for (and get the most from) medical appointments; Communicating effectively with doctors and care teams; Understanding insurance, billing, and referrals; Navigating hospitalizations and discharge planning; Coordinating care among specialists; Advocating for yourself or a loved one in complex systems. Whether you are managing your own health, supporting a spouse, or helping aging parents, this class will equip you with the tools, language, and confidence to take charge of your healthcare journey.
