This six-session course provides an in-depth examination of lethal injection, which is responsible for 98% of all executions in this country over the last several decades. Sessions will explore how lethal injection was invented & the (non)science behind it; what the drugs are and what they do, and the reason for the lethal injection drug shortage; who is actually conducting these executions and how medical ethics prevent highly qualified medical professionals from participating; how prison culture plays into the mix, and what prison guard executioners have to say about their role; the secrecy surrounding lethal injection; and what studying executions revealed about redemption on death row. This course aims to provide information while leaving ample time for discussion about this little known but highly important topic.
