Course: Emergency Preparedness (OSH-EMERGPREP)
This interactive, confidence-building class is designed specifically for the Osher student who wants to feel more prepared, informed, and empowered during emergencies. Participants will learn practical steps to stay safe before, during, and after a variety of events: including severe weather, power outages, medical emergencies, and unexpected disruptions. We will cover essential topics such as creating a personalized emergency plan, assembling age-appropriate emergency kits, understanding local alert systems, and preparing important documents. We also discuss home safety considerations for older adults, and communication plans for staying connected with family, neighbors, and caregivers. Through hands-on demonstrations and guided planning worksheets, attendees will leave with a clear, customized preparedness plan and the knowledge needed to respond calmly and effectively. No prior experience is required. This class prioritizes accessibility, practical skills, and peace of mind.
