The newly published 2025-2030 Dietary Guidelines have turned the old 1980 Food Pyramid on its head: literally. Since the government first dipped its toe into the business of giving dietary advice (1980), overweight and obesity have skyrocketed to 75% of the population. More troubling was the parallel rise of diabetes with its requisite increase in heart disease, kidney failure, blindness, peripheral neuropathy and amputations - all diseases never contemplated in our neolithic past. You will be taken on a journey from our hominin beginnings, where we ate a diet natural to humans, which is a far cry from the dietary advice of the past 45 years that focused on the consumption of cultivated grains and carbohydrates (sugar), and the demonization of one of the three macronutrients necessary for human survival: fat.
