Course: The Biggest Questions of Them All: From Philosophy to Science . . . (OSH-PHILSCI)

Eight topics will be covered, each for 1.5 hours followed by comments from the attendees to allow the knowledgeable attendees to teach/inform each other for 30 minutes. The topics are: 1.) Existence/The Ultimate Gift?: Why is there Something rather than No-thing? 2.) The Universe becomes Aware: The Participatory Universe - it can see itself; Are the Laws of the Universe - descriptions, inventions or prescriptions? 3.) Life develops Consciousness - The Hard Problem. What are the major theories of human consciousness? 4.) Studies of the Earth (from the past to the present to the future: Life - Evolution to Humans, Climate Change, Extinction 5.) Human Happiness, Purpose, Meaning, Mattering: Keeping Healthy 6.) Belief and Knowing: What is the best way to know? Religion and Science? 7.) Ethics and Morality: Is there such a thing as Free Will? 'Determinism' 8.) Everything Else!! (e.g., Viruses, Nuclear Fission and Nuclear Fusion, etc.).
