This course covers the story of human evolution from the earliest vertebrates through Homo sapiens, including human cultural and technological developments from the dawn of civilization as revealed by the sciences of biology, paleontology, anthropology, and archaeology. Inspiration for the course title was the 1950s LIFE magazine series The Epic of Man. This course is a follow-up to the presenter's previous Osher course, Deep Time.
