Course detail: Supervisor School

The Missouri POST Program has approved this course for "Approved Provider" training credit of 40 hours, POST Control Number 30489.

Course Description:

The CPSL Supervisor School is a highly engaging, 5-dayin-person program for new supervisors and those seeking a refresher. Participants work with practical tools in leveraging personal and team strengths, managing organizational change, situational awareness, and performance management. By the end of the week, you'll have drafted an outline for navigating difficult conversations and delivered a short presentation-sharpening your public-speaking skills and honing strategies for pitching solutions to Command staff.

Core Competencies:

  • Managing Self -Participants will harness one's emotions, thoughts, and behaviors effectively in different situations and to achieve goals and aspirations.
  • Managing Projects -Participants will demonstrate strong communication skills to convey messages effectively to share their vision, goals, ideas, and issues.
  • Leading People -Participants will lead and engage people to maximize organizational performance.
  • Managing Programs -Participants will use their knowledge, skills, and qualities to effectively perform the functions associated with management in their work environment. 

Course Objectives:

  • Demonstrate adaptive leadership practices that balance supervisory authority with coaching, peer-connection, and outward mindset principles to strengthen law enforcement teams.
  • Discuss evidence-based strategies to manage change, motivate personnel, and address contemporary challenges in today's public safety environment.
  • Identify personal strengths, organizational dynamics, and generational differences to make fair, ethical, and effective 

Target Audience:

  • New supervisors
  • Experienced supervisors and Supervisors seeking refresher
  • Option for Foundations of Frontline Leadership grads not ready/able to do CPSL Command School

Course Requirements:

  • Daily attendance
  • Complete a short presentation on Project Planning

Notice of Availability of the KLETC Annual Security and Fire Safety Report:

The University of Kansas has determined that the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC) main campus in Hutchinson and its regional sites in Dodge City, Hays, and Parsons are separate campuses. This determination was made in consultation with the Department of Education. The report is available online t: https://civilrights.ku.edu/clery.

The report contains information regarding campus safety and security including topics such as: campus law enforcement authority; crime reporting policies; campus alerts (Timely Warnings and Emergency Notifications); fire safety policies and procedures; programs to prevent sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking; the procedures the institution will follow when one of these crimes is reported; and other matters of importance related to security on campus. The report also contains information about crime statistics for the three most recent calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred On-Campus; in On-Campus Student Housing Facilities; in Non-Campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the institution or a recognized student organization; and on Public Property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus. The report also contains fire statistics for any fires occurring in an On-Campus Student Housing Facility during the three most recent calendar years.

Bulletin

Participants are responsible for their own snacks, drinks, meals, lodging and travel. Please dress in layers, as the temperature in the room may be difficult to adjust. The session begins at 8:00AM and is estimated to end at 5:00PM. On-site registration will begin at 7:30AM.

Cancellation Policy

A refund less a $150.00 cancellation fee will be assessed for all cancellations made in writing prior to 10 days before the start of the event. After that time, no refunds will be made.
