Social Work Clinical Supervision 

Course Fee: $130

Dates: Register on a monthly basis - access granted from the 1st of the month to the end of the month - Schedule Instructor Check-ins based on availability.

Times: Four hours per month - Schedule Instructor Check-ins based on availability  

Course Description:

This course will provide enrollees with the clinical supervision required to meet eligibility for Illinois Clinical Social Work Licensure (LCSW). Enrollees in the course can expect to engage in live/synchronous virtual sessions with a peer group of no more than five and a highly experienced licensed clinical social worker.

*Participants will meet in groups of five.

Purpose: Currently in the state of Illinois, master's level social workers (MSW) pursuing eligibility for clinical licensure (LCSW) require 3000 hours of satisfactory, supervised clinical professional experience subsequent to the receipt of the degree, supervised by an Illinois licensed clinical social worker (LCSW). If LCSW facilitated clinical supervision is not provided within employment, one can contract a LCSW to provide such supervision.

Supervision may be provided as individual or group based. Group supervision cannot exceed five supervisees.

The course will offer a variety of topics including but not limited to:

  • education, training and development on clinical models of practice
  • advanced skills for case conceptualization, assessment and diagnosis
  • treatment planning and implementation
  • awareness and management of ethical dilemmas
  • strengthening skills for professionalism, consultation, and teamwork in addition to forming the professional identity
  • crisis management and risk assessment
  • preparation for the LCSW exam

Expected Outcomes:

Persons who engage in this course will:

  • increase and/or achieve eligibility for clinical social work licensure in the state of Illinois
  • be better prepared to pass the LCSW exam
  • see significant gains in skills for clinical practice and use of supervision
  • be better equipped to utilize self-reflection and evaluation to guide ethical and professional practice in the field
