Course detail: Community Health Worker Core Competency Curriculum (CCC)

Community Health Workers support individuals, families, and communities by addressing social determinants of health, providing access to resources, and building community capacity. CHWs work across clinical and community settings to provide education, service coordination, advocacy, and outreach, helping people navigate systems while promoting equity, prevention, and overall well-being.

This virtual training will help you build skills, deepen knowledge, and succeed in the CHW profession. Participants in this training will develop essential competencies in communication, advocacy, coordination of care, and cultural responsiveness.

 

This training fulfills the 100 hours of classroom instruction required for the Kansas State CHW certification and provides up to 30 of the 60 required service-learning hours.

 

Eligibility Criteria

  • 18 years or older
  • At least a GED or high school diploma

Participants who complete the training will be eligible to receive $1,000 upon training completion. *Restrictions apply.

 

Course Materials

Course materials, including outlines, presentation copies, and supplementary materials, will be accessible through Canvas, KU's online learning system. Instructions will be provided upon completed registration for how to set up your KU online ID to access Canvas.

In addition, to participate in this training, you must purchase the required textbook, "Foundations for Community Health Workers".

Prior to registering, you must complete an applicant screening process, which includes a brief application form and short phone call.
