This four to six-week online course is Part 1 of a blended learning program addressing NFPA 1020, Chapter 9, Fire Officer 1. Students complete coursework, with instructor feedback and grading provided throughout, within the structured four to six-week window. Course dates are determined by the host agency request. This course has scheduled start and end dates.

Part 2 is a two-day face-to-face seminar. All students must register separately for Part 2 and certification testing. This program is designed to provide participants with knowledge and skills in leadership, leading teams, crew resource management, command of initial emergency operations, personnel management, community relations, administration, inspection and investigation, and health and safety in compliance with NFPA 1020.

Recommended texts: Jones & Bartlett Learning, Fire Officer: Principles and Practice, 5th Edition. A textbook is not required for the online portion but is strongly recommended.

Course prerequisites (REQUIRED): Firefighter I and II certification; ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800; and Fire Instructor I certification.
