Course detail: Coaching as a Leadership Skill for Today's Workplace

Course Description:

Leadership involves accomplishing today's work, but it also means building the capacity of people to handle tomorrow's challenges.

Most leaders have developed a range of ways to help others succeed-from providing clear direction and sharing expertise to teaching, mentoring, and solving problems alongside them. Coaching adds another tool: knowing when to step back from providing the answer and instead help someone strengthen their own thinking, judgment, and ability to solve problems.

In this highly practical, interactive two-day workshop, participants will explore coaching as one tool within a broader leadership toolkit. Rather than suggesting there is one "right" way to lead, the workshop focuses on increasing leadership range-recognizing when different approaches are useful and becoming more intentional about choosing among them.

Participants will practice straightforward skills they can apply in everyday leadership conversations: listening more effectively, asking questions that generate better thinking, resisting the impulse to immediately provide the solution, supporting accountability, and helping others learn from experience.

Participants bring the expertise about their work and the realities of their environment. This workshop brings a people-development lens and a set of practical skills for building greater capability and confidence in others.

The goal is simple: give leaders more ways to develop capable people who can think, make decisions, solve problems, and continue growing. When people have a greater role in their own thinking and development, they are more likely to take ownership of their work, buy into decisions and solutions, and bring greater motivation and commitment to what they do.
