Gregory Amundson
Biography: Dr. Gregory J. Amundson serves as the Law Enforcement Training Advisor (LETA) at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) Leadership Institute (FLI). He joined FLI in March 2025, following his role as a senior instructor and export program coordinator with the FLETC Enforcement Operations Division (EOD), where he led a team delivering the Use of Force Instructor Training Program (UOFITP) to agencies nationwide. Greg also serves as anadjutant assistant professor at Regent University (qualitative research methodology, leadership, and chaplaincy). Greg began his law enforcement career in 1999 with the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office. Over the years, he served as a SWAT operator, sniper, defensive tactics instructor, maritime officer, rescue swimmer, firearms instructor, Field Training Officer (FTO), and DEA Special Agent on the southwest border. While with the DEA, Greg also liaised with the Border Enforcement Security Taskforce (BEST) Team. He completed the DEA's rigorous Foreign-Deployed Advisory Support Team (FAST) assessment and selection course and the U.S. Navy's Land Warfare School.Greg is a recognized subject matter expert in law enforcement physical fitness, control tactics, and resilience. He completed the LAPD Handgun Instructor Training School (HITS) and holds a black belt in Krav Maga under the Krav Maga Association of America and Krav Maga Worldwide. A founding athlete of the CrossFit program, Greg developed the CrossFit Law Enforcement Application Program and taught CrossFit and Krav Maga to thousands of officers worldwide. He created the nation's first standardized SWAT fitness test as the National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA) Section Chair on Physical Fitness. Greg holds the Guinness World Record for most burpees in 24 hours (mixed team) with 35,393 repetitions and was a Gold Medalist in the "Toughest Cop Alive" Police and Fire Games Competition.A former U.S. Army National Guard Captain, Greg was a Military Police platoon leader and company commander. He served on the Officer Candidate School (OCS) cadre, teaching leadership, fitness, and U.S. Army Combatives. He holds a B.A. in Legal Theory from the University of California, Santa Cruz, two master's degrees (summa cum laude) from Western Theological Seminary, and a doctorate (summa cum laude) from Regent University (D.Min.). Greg is also an ordained and ecclesiastically endorsed chaplain. He is a bestselling author and has contributed extensively to Calibre Press, The Tactical Edge, and the FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin, writing on topics spanning resilience, chaplaincy, leadership, and the warrior-guardian ethos in law enforcement. Greg and his wife Jessica love adventure and the outdoors. They enjoy surfing, snorkeling, scuba diving, and exploring the beauty of Florida's coastline with their two dogs.
