Course detail: Law Enforcement Leadership Academy - Command School

Course Description:

The LELA Command School is a 300-hour, competency-based professional development program which blends classroom instruction with additional online coursework to deliver the concepts, tools, and practical resources needed for effective management.

In Law Enforcement today, it is imperative to have great leaders. The community expects law
enforcement agencies to be led by quality leaders, who can run a disciplined organization which
is transparent and professional. This course will include lecture and classroom activities on leadership, professionalism and the challenges of the transition to supervision.

Core Competencies:

  • Managing Self - Participants will harness one's emotions, thoughts, and behaviors effectively in different situations and to achieve goals and aspirations.
  • Managing Projects - Participants will demonstrate strong communications skills to convey messages effectively to share their vision, goals, ideas, and issues.
  • Leading People - Participants will lead and engage people to maximize organizational performance.
  • Managing Programs - Participants will use their knowledge, skills, and qualities to effectively perform the functions associated with management in their work environment.
  • Leading Organizations - Participants will appraise and adopt the duties and behaviors incumbent upon a law enforcement leader who acts in ways that support the needs of their organization, community, and profession.

The Law Enforcement Leadership - Command training is now presented by the Center for Public Safety Leadership (CPSL).  Due to Congressionally directed funding, this year the command certificate is $1,000.  In the past, this training was valued at $4,000.
