Course detail: Summer Biotechnology Program

In order to address the demand for a 21st-century workforce in biotechnology, the Summer Biotechnology Program at KU Edwards campus is aimed at improving biotechnology education and attracting high school students from diverse populations into biotechnology, and other STEM degree programs with the objective of providing a pathway for young students interested in the sciences to enter the knowledge-based economy.

This program will introduce students to the lab, how to perform basic laboratory techniques, how experiments are designed, and how data is managed.

Program Times: M-F 9am-3pm, June 16-27.

This program provides:
  • Onsite instruction by University of Kansas faculty.
  • Educational content which includes the basics of DNA/RNA/Protein biology, elements of molecular biology, microbiology, and basic immunology.
  • A number of critical laboratory techniques.
  • An appreciation for the cycle of science in terms of literature review, experimental design, data capture, data analysis, and presentation of results.
