Course detail: LALU - Legal and Legislative Updates

This six-hour block of instruction will provide Kansas Law Enforcement an opportunity to obtain legal and legislative updates that affect police operations and investigations.  By using an interactive, web-based application, participants will engage in classroom discussion on a wide range of topics, including:

  • Fourth Amendment Kansas Case Law and Police Operations
  • Body Cameras and All Things Considered:  Overview of body camera use by patrol, by prosecution, agency policies and current concerns/issues surrounding discovery, evidence and public dissemination.  
  • Traffic Stops
  • Search Warrants
  • Lawful Search Incident to Arrest
  • Probable Cause Case Law
  • Consent
  • Legislative Updates effective July 1, 2020
