Course detail: Case Law Updates and Hot Topics

This course provides the most recent state and federal case law directly affecting Kansas street officers. During the class, there will also be deeper discussions about current hot topics in constitutional law enforcement practices, policies, and procedures.

At the conclusion of this training, participants will be able to:

Explain the implications of recent legal decisions on their daily duties and responsibilities.
Engage in discussions and assess the legal and ethical dimensions of these practices.
Integrate legal standards into their operational protocols.

Biography: Colin D. Wood is a contract attorney cross-designated as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney, District of Kansas, assigned to the criminal division's asset forfeiture unit in Wichita. He is a retired KBI Senior Special Agent, maintains a part-time private practice assisting local law enforcement agencies in state court asset forfeiture cases, and he writes and teaches on legal topics for the Kansas street officer. Colin holds a degree from Wichita State University and Washburn School of Law.
