Course detail: Surviving an Active Killer Attack

Course Description
Surviving an Active Killer Attack is a 4-hour seminar presented my Michael Howell, a retired police commander who was personally involved with in a lethal force attack in 2017 with an active killer at a big box store in Lenexa, KS.

The course provides an in-depth study of the active killer tragedies in society, both past and most recent. Through the course, participants will not only gain a stronger understanding of the threat, but more importantly, how to better understand how an individual can make the ultimate decision to commit such acts of violence.

The latter half of the course will provide the participant a first-hand account of the actions of both the active killer, and the responses from Captain Howell and the responding on-duty officers. Video, 911 calls for police, and a discussion of lessons learned close out the seminar.

Participant Course Objectives
  • Gain a stronger understanding of the threat facing many aspects of society today concerning active killers.
  • Experience and gain a better understanding of the thought processes involved in responding to an active killer attack.

The report also contains information about crime statistics for the three most recent calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred On-Campus; in On-Campus Student Housing Facilities; in Non-Campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the institution or a recognized student organization; and on Public Property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus.
