A class designed to define domestic violence, protection order, tools and strategies for assessing danger or risk of lethality. Responding to and investigating domestic violence, stalking orders, and lethality will be discussed along with the limitations of protection orders.
Core Competencies:
- Students will be able to employ best practices in crime scene photography, as they investigate any crime from its beginning to its eventual disposition; either as an individual or as part of an investigatory team.
- Participants will be able to decide upon prescribed courses of action or techniques that will provide a greater level of safety in a variety of environments, events and situations.
Course Objectives:
- Participants define domestic violence and determine ways in which to maintain officer/victim safety during domestic violence calls.
- Participants define probable cause and mandatory arrest for domestic violence calls.
- Participants define stalking and determine ways in which to maintain officer/victim safety during encounters with stalking.
- Participants gain tools and strategies for assessing danger or risk of lethality.
- Participants interpret protection orders and discuss how to utilize them in cases of domestic violence and stalking.
