Course detail: Case Management and Affidavit Preparation

The purpose of an investigation is to build upon available evidence and information to prove the elements of a particular crime. The investigation should lead to the apprehension of offenders and/or recovery of property through effective gathering, evaluation and documentation of facts. The investigation may lead to the arrest and successful prosecution of the case and/or recovery of stolen property.

This course will cover the various aspects of case management including case prioritization, follow-up investigations, documentation, time management, developing contacts and working with prosecutors. Attendees will be required to actively participate in classroom discussion and share information and ideas on how to approach building case files and preparing for criminal prosecutions. 

  • Participants will employ best practices as they investigate any crime from its beginning to its eventual disposition, either as an individual, or as part of an investigatory team.      

  • Participants will understand the need to prioritize assigned cases and utilize good case management practices. 
  • Participants will be able to recognize detailed, accurate case documentation.
  • Participants will understand the need to develop a working relationship with prosecuting attorneys. 
  • Participants will discuss how to build case files for effective prosecutions.
  • Participants will identify various investigative resources such as computer data bases, personal contacts with LEO's from other agencies and jurisdictions, etc.

For those with dorm room reservation, you may check in the evening before your training starts. Please come to the Main KLETC Entrance, it is near the flagpole and marked with a large "A". More information will be provided through email approximately one week before the start of training. Law Enforcement officers attending continuing education training are permitted to carry their firearm while on the KLETC campus. Law enforcement officers carrying a firearm on the KLETC campus must possess appropriate agency identification. We are a tobacco and alcohol-free campus. Refund/Cancellation Policy: A full refund of lodging fees will be available if requested in writing or and received by KLETC ten days prior to the beginning date of the seminar. After that date, but prior to the seminar, refunds will be made, but a $25.00 administrative fee will be charged. No refunds will be made after the starting date of the seminar. Cancellation Policy

A refund less a $10.00 cancellation fee will be assessed for all cancellations made in writing prior to 10 days before the start of the event. After that time, no refunds will be made.
