Course detail: OCT - Opioid Crisis Training
Every day more than 115 people in the United States die after overdosing on opioids. The misuse of and addiction to opioids (including prescription pain relievers, heroin, and synthetic opioids, such as fentanyl) is a serious national crisis that affects public health as well as social and economic welfare. Recently, the growing crisis was declared a "public health emergency."

During this training we will discuss the opioid crisis in Kansas and the different classes of opioids. We will also focus about how to recognize opioid abuse and overdose signs/symptoms. We will discuss how to conduct an on-scene investigation of opioid related incidents or death from an overdose. In addition, we will review safety procedures when handling opioids. Finally, the keys to a successful investigation and what Federal and State statutes that can be used for charging these types of cases will be discussed.
