Course detail: GEOL 556: Field Methods in Hydrology

This field-based course introduces field methods for the characterization of hydrologic systems and environmental site characterization. Topics covered include physical and chemical characterization techniques, such as: how to measure water levels; perform single well and aquifer tests; unsaturated zone parameterization; inorganic, organic, isotopic, and dissolved gas characterization; groundwater-surface water characterization techniques, and geophysical techniques for hydrogeology. The class meets for one week at KU's Harrison Field Station in Colorado, July 11-20. Two online exercises precede the field part of the course. This class also meets in-person at the Colorado field site during the period of July 14 - 22, 2025. A more detailed schedule will be shared with students once the course begins.
