Course detail: Exploring the Works of Governors Sam Crawford and Arthur Capper

Crawford resigned from the legislature to answer Lincoln's call for troops and rose to the rank of general, was elected governor while on the battlefield in Missouri. While governor, he married the youngest first lady in Kansas history--she was 18 and he was 36. Then, he resigned the governorship to lead the 19th Kansas in the Plains Indian Wars. Their only daughter married Arthur Capper, who became governor and U. S. Senator. Capper's media empire was second only to Hearst. Some of his publications or businesses still exist.
