Course detail: Christmas Through the Ages in Historic Lecompton
Start your holiday season with a visit to historic Lecompton and the Territorial Capital Museum's annual Christmas tree and decorations exhibition. The visit will start with a presentation by regional Christmas ornament enthusiast Michele Ferris and Suellen Maekley. They will take participants through a presentation that covers antique and vintage Christmas decorations. Topics will include feather trees, Christmas lighting and ornaments from the late 1800s into the 1970s. They will discuss keys to identify the age and point of origin of the decorations and there will be an opportunity for questions.
After the presentation, participants will have the opportunity to view the 250 trees and antique ornaments on display throughout the museum.
After the museum visit, participants are encouraged to visit Constitution Hall. In 1856, it became the place where the Kansas territorial government convened. In the fall of 1857, the Lecompton constitutional convention met and drafted a pro-slavery constitution.
Enjoy shopping in the quaint downtown or lunch in one of the local restaurants.
