Course detail: OSH187 - Disabilities and the Law

This course reviews how the legal system treats persons withdisabilities in the areas of non- discrimination, the criminal law, andlife-and-death decisions. Week one reviews the history of discriminationagainst persons with disabilities and the federal laws prohibiting discrimination on the basis of disability. Week two examines issues a person with a disability faces if he or she isaccused of a crime, such as competency to stand trialand the insanity defense. Week three looks at the sterilization of persons withmental disabilities and end-of-life decisions for disabled persons
