Course Description: Deschutes Watershed Speaker Series: Learn About Your Home Waters

The Upper Deschutes Watershed Council in partnership with Community Education at Central Oregon Community College, is coordinating a six-part informational series about the Deschutes watershed. Join us to learn about water use in the watershed, water conservation efforts, geology and hydrology and fish and wildlife in the Deschutes watershed. Four sessions will be lectures and held at the High Desert Museum. Two sessions will be full day field trips to explore topics from the lectures.

Lecture sessions are held on Thursday, 4/23; Wednesday, 5/6; Thursday, 5/28; and Thursday, 6/4, 6-8 pm at The High Desert Museum. Field days are on Fridays, 5/15 and 6/12, 9 am-4 pm.

Kris Knight

Biography: Kris Knight, Executive Director, Upper Deschutes Watershed CouncilKris has spent 20+ years working in the field of natural resources on issues related to rivers and watersheds. Kris was hired as Executive Director for UDWC in 2019 and before that worked in Washington, Iowa and Kansas. For 11 years, Kris worked for The Nature Conservancy with seven years living in the Skagit River Valley in Washington State, managing collaborative projects and finding common ground between conservation and agricultural interests in the Puget Sound region. Prior to that, Kris worked for three years with the Stillaguamish Tribe in northwest Washington restoring rivers and wetlands. Between 2015 and 2019, Kris worked in his home state of Kansas as the Conservation Director for The Nature Conservancy where he launched a new conservation program called Healthy Streams for Kansas and led the creation of the Little Jerusalem Badlands State Park. Kris holds a B.S. degree from Drake University and a M.S. degree in Environmental Science from Iowa State University. Kris met his wife Wendy while previously living in Bend over 20 years ago and they are excited to be back in Central Oregon raising their three boys.

Full refunds are also issued for classes cancelled by COCC. Refunds will be issued back to your card or in the form of a check and mailed within two weeks of the cancellation date if paid by check or cash. Failure to participate in a course or program does not result in a refund. Exceptions to the general refund policy are noted in the course descriptions on our website and in the printed schedule.
