Learn the basics of metalsmithing while making your own custom enamel earrings, and matching pendant! Metalsmithing techniques for this project include designing, sawing, filing, sanding, forming, hammering, finish work, and more. Class will include a brief lecture on the metal arts and safety while working with metals, then a hands-on demonstration. Students will design, saw out, file, and sand their pendants from base metals (copper or brass). Once the design is completed, the pendant will be formed to have a 3D appearance. You will learn the basics of designing and building metalsmith earrings, and create hand-made earring wires to hang your earrings from. You can make your pendant out of brass or copper as part of the cost of the class, or silver will be available for an additional in-class purchase, if you prefer. By the end of the class, you will have made a unique, custom pendant with a set of matching earrings. No experience necessary!
