Course Description: The Basics of Beginning Sewing

Learn basic sewing techniques in this hands-on class. Topics will include tips on which stitch to use, types of needles and when to use them, adjusting tension, and different types of seams for various applications. Students will have the opportunity to complete one pillow case in this four-hour class. Bring your own portable sewing machine. Materials are required for this course. This class is intended for beginners with no prior sewing experience.

Additional Course Information

Beginning Sewing - The Basics
·Portable sewing machine (recommended to bring your machine manual in case it is needed)
·1- 1/3 yard (king size) or 1 yard (std. size) of cotton or broadcloth (pre-washed and dried/pre-shrunk and pressed) to make a pillowcase.
·Additional fabric scraps or fat quarters for practice work
·Thread (matching color and/or contrasting color for topstitching)
·Straight pins and pin cushion/keeper
·Machine needles (size 11-14, as appropriate for your fabric selection)
·Scissors (rotary blade and mat optional)
·Seam ripper
·Seam gauge and/or measuring tape
·Iron and small, table top iron board or thick towel to iron on

Full refunds are also issued for classes cancelled by COCC. Refunds will be issued back to your card or in the form of a check and mailed within two weeks of the cancellation date if paid by check or cash.
