Course Detail: SSCS - SIUE Community Strings Program - Violin, Viola, Cello Lessons

Learn note reading, and concert pieces; prepare for Solo and Ensemble Contest and school orchestra assignments; play folk songs, hymns, or fiddle tunes. 

 ADULTS ARE ALSO WELCOME to sign up for private lessons through this program. 


Open to students age 9 and up. Suzuki Students must register under SIUE Suzuki Program.

  • How many weeks? 15 weeks per semester. Fall Semester is August-December, Spring Semester is January-May. The registration fee is paid once per academic year. 
  • How long are lessons? 30, 45, or 60 minutes 
  • Where are lessons? On the SIUE Campus, Dunham Hall, 2nd Floor *pending University guidelines 
  • When is my lesson? Lesson times are arranged with your teacher. Lessons are taught by SIUE Graduate Assistants in Music. 
  • What is the cost? There is a $20 annual registration fee, paid once per year. In addition to the registration fee, tuition fees are listed below. 
  • Faculty Teacher: 
    • 30 min lesson; 4 payments of $125.00 ($500 in 1 payment per semester)
    • 45 min lesson; 4 payments of $187.50 ($750 in 1 payment per semester)
    • 60 min lesson; 4 payments of $249.75 ($999 in 1 payment per semester)
  • Graduate Teacher: 
    • 30 min lesson; 4 payments of $118.75 ($475 in 1 payment per semester)
    • 45 min lesson; 4 payments of $168.75 ($675 in 1 payment per semester)
    • 60 min lesson; 4 payments of $231.25 ($925 in 1 payment per semester)
  • Payment Due Dates: 
    • First Payment Due: August 15
    • Second Payment Due: September 15
    • Third Payment Due: October 15
    • Fourth/Final Payment Due: November 15
