Course Detail: LECT-8812 - Music of the Civil War

Music was sung and played in home parlors, at political rallies, in army camps, around campfires, and on the battlefield. Music was used to inspire the troops during the terrible fighting. This class examines and listens to the songs that were written and sung by civilians and soldiers. Learn about the popular genres, the songs origins and the cultural and patriotic influences. Come learn, listen and discuss how Civil War music was much more than just background noise.
