Course Detail: WELL-9302 - Healthcare Policy, Law & Structure: Impacts on Healthcare Professionals

This introductory course provides a broad overview of healthcare policy, law, and structure in Illinois and the United States and how these systems shape healthcare and nursing practice in both hospital and private sector settings. Participants will explore how policy influences patient access, reimbursement, scope of practice, and quality of care, while also examining the role healthcare professionals play in driving patient outcomes and impacting healthcare systems.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the structure of the U.S. and Illinois healthcare systems
  • Identify key federal and state laws influencing healthcare
  • Explain how healthcare policy, reimbursement, and quality metrics intersect
  • Recognize how policy impacts patient access, payment models, and professional scope
  • Describe how healthcare professionals contribute to measurable outcomes that influence hospital ratings and funding
Class note: Upon successful completion two (2) contact hours will be awarded to physical therapists, PTAs, Occupational Therapists, COTAs, and nurses.
