Course Detail: WELL-9282 - Working with Young Adults in Mental Health and Addictions Treatment

This skill-building workshop outlines the unique needs of adolescents and young adults in mental health and substance use disorders treatment. Topics covered include: addressing the needs of adolescents and young adults in treatment; best practices in adolescent treatment; incorporating the five features of emerging adulthood in your work with clients; engaging adolescents and emerging adults in treatment; evidence-based practices friendly to the needs of 15 to 25-year-olds.

Objectives: By the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:
  • Identify best practices in adolescent treatment.
  • Identify best practices in emerging adult treatment.
  • Incorporate the 5 features of emerging adulthood into your work with clients.
  • Tailor treatment to the unique needs of 15 to 25-year-olds.
  • Engage adolescents and emerging adults in mental health and addictions treatment more effectively.
  • Utilize techniques from 4 adolescent and emerging adult-friendly evidence-based practices.
Class note: Upon successful completion, three (3) contact hours will be awarded to nurses, counselors and social workers. IAODAPCA hours have been applied for and are pending.
