Course Detail: LLLI-9894 - Civil War Congresses

After Southern secession in 1860, the 37th and 38th U.S. Congresses operated without opposition from pro-slavery legislators, passing landmark legislation that shaped the nation's future. At the same time, the Confederate Congresses struggled to govern a nation at war. This course examines how both governments used legislation to support their war efforts-and the limits of their success.
