Course Detail: WRITEBOOK - How to Write a Novel & Get It Published

So, you want to write a novel. Charles Belfoure, a New York Times bestselling author can help you make that dream happen. First, by breaking down and analyzing the components of a novel, you'll understand how theme, setting, plotting, characterization, pacing, research, and style are the building blocks of fiction writing. Once your novel is finished, the process of revision and finding an editor and a literary agent will be explained. You'll learn how the world of publishing works including copyright, literary and foreign rights, advances, royalties, film and television rights, marketing and publicity. The pitfalls and scams of self-publishing will also be revealed. Besides fiction, the class covers nonfiction and newspaper writing. Students will be required to read The Paris Architect before the first class, which will also be the novel that is analyzed in detail, no writing assignments.
