American Heart Association CPR Instructor Training

American Heart Association Instructor Training is designed to prepare qualified instructors to teach CPR, use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and how to relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner.  It will include a review of essential skills and concepts, equipment uses, and instructor expectations. The course reflects the latest science and education from the American Heart Association Guidelines for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC).

What does this course teach?

This comprehensive 6-hour course prepares candidates to become effective AHA Instructors by teaching them how to:

- Demonstrate proficiency in performing and instructing CPR skills and concepts.
- Properly operate, maintain, and clean equipment.
- Conduct BLS for Healthcare Providers or Heartsaver CPR/AED courses in a classroom  setting.
- Evaluate student performance objectively and provide constructive feedback and remediation when needed.
- Understandand apply UCC's and the American Heart Association's policies, procedures,and expectations for Instructors.

    Prerequisites for Course:

    - Have current AHA provider status in the discipline you plan to teach (Heartsaver or BLS) and be proficient in all the skills of that discipline.
    - Purchase an Instructor Manual for each discipline you will be teaching (Heartsaver or BLS)
    UCC does not have manuals available for purchase, please purchase from AHA Shop CPR or WorldPoint
    - Complete the online Instructor Essentials in the discipline you plan to teach (Heartsaver or BLS) and email course completion certificate to CPR@umpqua.edu
    - Alignment with an AHA Training Center
