This 2-day workshop is designed to prepare young individuals for babysitting. The course will cover basic infant/child care and development, child play and behavior, personal safety and understanding emergencies, and CPR/First Aid Certification. This course, when successfully completed, will provide all individuals with a babysitting portfolio, CPR and First Aid Certification and a Document of Course Completion. Ages 11 - 16

Do you want a table? Why not make your own? This class starts with the basic elements of table design and construction and from there, additional elements can be added or modified to the design you prefer, such as farm, rustic, shaker styles, etc. This class will provide the tools and instruction to help you build the skills you'll need to make your own table, even if you have never done anything involving woodworking before. Jim Brokenbourgh the class instructor, is a 30+ year custom furniture maker, will take you step by step through the process, including basic wood properties, making your own plans, how to select wood, and the safe use of woodworking tools and equipment, plus finishing ideas. Table size and types of wood are flexible. Class includes field trips to Artistic Wood Studio LLC

Home dairying and cheese making is the goal of this course! This class will teach you that home dairying and cheese making can be simple, nutritious and cost effective. You will learn to make your own fresh Mozzarella cheese, Butter, Sour Cream and Fromage Blanc. Wine will be available for purchase courtesy of UCC SOWI. Instructor: Mary Hawes. Please bring a 1/2 pint glass jar with lid and a small bowl with lid to transport your cheese.

In this class you will learn how to make corn tortillas from scratch, starting with whole filed corn. Also known as Nixtamalization, this is an ancient tradition from the Aztec culture. In this class you will learn the basics in caring for cats and dogs through a variety of topics. Including checking vital signs, CPR, choking management, bleeding control, and more. Two of the most popular social Latin dances will be taught: Salsa, an energetic street dance from Cuba and Bachata, a slower more romantic dance from the Dominican Republic. Instructors Larry and Cheryl Stokes will teach you how to prepare Tom Kha Gai, a chicken and coconut cream soup, using such exotic Thai ingredients as kefir lime leaves and galangal (Thai ginger). This is a hands on cooking class, not just a demonstration. You'll go home with the skills and a recipe needed to impress your family and friends with your amazing cooking prowess.

This is a project-based course utilizing an open-lab format. Students can creatively plan, fabricate, smith, and make art out of metal. Topics covered will include: welding amp; blacksmithing processes, safety, equipment, and essential variables of operation. Class is open to all levels of students. Please bring safety glasses, closed toed shoes, a welding jacket, and welding helmet to each class. Questions about PPE or welding safety equipment will be discussed at the first class meeting. Materials for projects are not included in the course fee. Machine tools, welders, torches, and forges are included. Contact instructor, Ian Fisher at 541-440-7819.

Make something beautiful with wood! Students will learn woodworking techniques with hands-on experience. The class encompasses types of wood and their selection, joinery, and safe use of woodworking machinery and hand tools. Assistance in project selection will be provided, or you may choose your own! Your teacher is Jim Brokenbourgh, an experienced woodworker with over 30 years as a custom furniture maker and many years of providing private woodworking classes. Students supply their own wood. All levels of students are welcome! A safety orientation will be conducted on the first day of class for students that have not attended a previous class in the last year, please show up an hour early for the first class.

This WSET Level 1 Award in Wines course explores global regions and wine styles for consumers and industry professionals. The WSET Level 1 Award in Wines course focuses on the characteristics of many grape varieties of the world; the styles of wine they produce; and how to use label information to understand a wine's quality and style. Upon successful completion you will receive a WSET certificate and lapel pin. All course materials, including the Level 1 Workbook, will be provided day-of. No prior study or preparation is required. Refund Policy: Students will receive a full refund when a WSET course is cancelled by the Umpqua Community College due to insufficient enrollment. No refunds will be given after the class date has commenced. No refunds will be given after the pre-registration deadline which is 15 days prior to the class due to course materials and examination requirements.
