Course Detail: WTMD920 - Basic Manufacturing Skills

Course Description: This 21-hour course meets one day a week for 3 hours, over a 7-week period. Topics include fundamental principles of measurement, performing measurements, data management and analysis related to medical device manufacturing.

Mastery of these skills is key to successful careers in the medical device and the bioscience industry. As a result of this training students will be able to identify the differing phases of the manufacturing process following SOP/WID or test procedures; demonstrate how to maintain a clean, contamination-free, clutter free environment; use equipment correctly following appropriate instructions or manufacturer's guidelines, including SDS, FDA, OSHA, and CDC guidelines; demonstrate Good Documentation Practice (GDP); analyze Bill of Materials (BOM), inventory of resources, and apply LEAN (Six Sigma) manufacturing principles in product assembly activities; and perform statistical data analysis and reporting.

This course is one of four, in the Medical Device Manufacturing Processes and Practices Certificate program. Upon successful completion of the certificate, students will qualify for entry-level positions, including Quality Technician, Quality Inspector, and Quality Assurance Inspector.
