This course provides a thorough introduction to the relatively young field of genetic research within a genealogical and ancestral context. Students will learn the basics of genetic genealogy and how it is used to resolve family history research cases. They will learn methodologies and best practices for Y chromosome (Ycs), mitochondrial (mtDNA) and autosomal DNA (atDNA) test results and how to apply this knowledge in extending and verifying traditional genealogical research.

This course introduces students to genealogy computer programs and basic genealogy skills used to conduct research and document records with appropriate citations. Students will learn how to use Internet tools for genealogy research in records from 1900 to present.

This course explores the concepts and tools used by quality control technicians in the life sciences including medical devices, pharmaceutics, and nutritional supplements. A broad overview of quality control concepts will be supplemented by the standards and tools used by quality control technicians for inspection, calibration, and proper follow up within the requirements of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).

Tracing Immigrant Origins introduces students to the methods and sources needed to extend a genealogy beyond the U.S. to other countries. Students will learn to accomplish this by finding evidence in U.S. records, which often provides clues or the place name of the foreign locality.
