Course Detail: CPM - Certified Public ManagerŪ Program

The Certified Public ManagerŪ program provides a foundation of knowledge and skills in management practices for managers at all levels in government and public-serving organizations; offers opportunities for professional and personal growth for public-sector employees; and fosters effective management practices in government and nonprofit organizations.

The Heartland CPM program combines classroom hours, online learning, and outside assignments to meet 300 hours of structured learning to earn the CPM credential. Classes meet for two days each month throughout the year, allowing participants to build their peer network while strengthening management competencies. Participants also complete a capstone project in conjunction with their sponsoring agencies focused on cost savings, revenue generation, process improvement, or innovation. 

For 2025 Mid-year start, CPM classes will be offered in the KC Metro Area and Topeka. Participants register for a primary class location but can attend the other location if their schedule requires. Click on a class below for additional details.

All sessions will join together for CPM conference on October 14 & 15 in Lawrence, Kansas. More details to come closer to the date.

Schedule: The Topeka CPM cohort meets for 22 in-person class sessions over 11 months. Meetings will run from 9 to 4:30pm, with one hour for lunch. Class meets on Wednesday and Thursday. Please note all cohorts will meet in Lawrence, KS on October 14 and 15 for the CPM Conference.
