Course Detail: NCRD-8562 - Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Training
This course provides an overview of sexual assault and domestic violence, including common forms of abuse, the dynamics of power and control, and the impact these experiences can have on individuals, families, and communities. Participants will explore how to respond when someone discloses an experience of abuse, identify ways to provide appropriate support, and learn about local resources available to survivors. The course emphasizes that abuse can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, relationship, or circumstances, and highlights community resources.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Define sexual assault and identify common forms, including unwanted sexual contact, rape, attempted rape, child sexual abuse, and sexual harassment.
- Define domestic violence and recognize patterns of behavior used to establish power and control in an intimate relationship.
- Identify different forms of abuse, including dating violence, elder abuse, and abuse of individuals with disabilities.
- Recognize the prevalence of abuse and understand that it can affect individuals from all backgrounds.
- Describe appropriate ways to respond when someone discloses an experience of abuse.
- Identify supportive actions and responses that avoid judgment and promote safety.
- Recognize the importance of understanding personal reactions and boundaries when supporting someone experiencing abuse.
