He is the author of five books, and the most recent is "Substance Use Disorders in African American Communities: Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery," (2013). He also has had a story published in the New York Times bestselling book series, Chicken Soup for the Soul.

This workshop helps build skills for understanding grief. It covers important topics such as the stages of grief, including the sixth stage of finding meaning, and the different types of losses that clients may experience. Participants will learn effective ways to support clients with mental illness and addiction as they deal with complicated grief. The workshop also provides practical strategies for handling grief during the end of counseling. Additionally, participants will learn the ten essential practices of effective grief counselors to help them offer compassionate and meaningful support for those who are grieving.

Many clients are vulnerable to slipping through the cracks because of the challenges of addressing their mental illness, substance use and process addictions such as problem gambling or sexual addiction. This can be frustrating for clients and clinicians. Topics covered in this presentation include: Intricacies of diagnosing the trifecta; making accurate diagnosis; integrated treatment of mental illness, substance use disorders and process addictions; relapse prevention for clients with triple diagnosis.
