Course Detail: LLLI-8721 - Fossils of Illinois

The rocks below our feet are filled with thousands of species of fossils of ancient life that are now extinct. We will explore examples of the fascinating creatures that lives on the land and swam in the seas that once covered our state. What do these fossils tells us about what Illinois was like long ago? Why are there no remains of dinosaurs found in Illinois? These and other questions will be discussed. Specimens of some of these animals and plants will be available to examine close up.
