Course Detail: LLLI-8276 - Beyond Imagination: Hitler's War Against the Soviet Union, 1941-1945
On June 22, 1941, Adolf Hitler launched Operation Barbarossa, the largest invasion in military history, sending more than three million German troops and their allies into the Soviet Union. What followed was nearly four years of warfare on a scale almost impossible to comprehend.
From the desperate defense of Moscow and the devastation of Stalingrad to the enormous tank battles around Kursk and the final Soviet assault on Berlin, the Eastern Front became the deadliest theater of the Second World War.
But this was far more than a struggle between two powerful armies. It was a war of annihilation driven by ideology, racial persecution, territorial ambition, and the determination of two dictatorships to destroy their enemies. Entire cities were reduced to rubble, millions of civilians perished, and vast populations endured starvation, occupation, displacement, and unimaginable suffering.
Through historical photographs, maps, firsthand accounts, and compelling statistics, this presentation explores the extraordinary scale of the German-Soviet conflict, the experiences of those who fought and suffered, and why the Eastern Front was central to the defeat of National Socialist Germany.
No prior knowledge of World War II is required.
