T&L 2900: Using Photojournalism to Increase Writing Opportunities
Photojournalism in schools involves using photography to tell stories and document community events. Participants will learn to capture images, craft narratives, and evaluate the quality of visual work, both their own and others. The overarching theme of this course is to use photos to tell a story, using the photographs as a visual storytelling board in their narrative writings. Participants will be using their own cameras, or smartphones, to capture a sequence of events for which they will apply narrative. Each participant will create 5 complete storyboards to be used. Participants are asked to provide a written outline prior to tackling the photo collections, and the instructor will assist each participant in creating a 16 page storybook that they can use in their classrooms.
