T&L 2900: Disciplinary Literacy

In this course, educators will develop foundational knowledge and skills in disciplinary literacy, with a focus on integrating effective reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking strategies into classroom practice. Over the span of three full-day sessions, participants will explore key disciplinary literacy concepts aligned to the following topics:
  1. reading
  2. writing
  3. critical thinking and academic language
Educators will also deepen their understanding of Scarborough's Reading Rope and examine how its components connect to disciplinary literacy and reading, writing, and skill development. Each session will include collaborative learning experiences, and participants will receive individual or team-based coaching to support implementation, reflection, and planning on how they may incorporate more disciplinary literacy strategies within their classroom.
