Women served in various capacities during the American Civil War - both aiding and sabotaging the war effort. This course will focus on material about the lives of women in the American Civil War. The instructor will discuss the lives of women before, during, and after the war in both the North and the South. The class will also look at how women were involved in the actual fighting of the war as nurses and soldiers and how the Civil War and women of the era are portrayed in popular culture.
