Course Detail: SAGINAWHISTORY - Saginaw's Early History: 1850s-1870s

Cork and white pine once decorated the Saginaw Valley to the north, creating a blanket of green as far as the eye could see. After lumber was commercialized in 1847, both East Saginaw and Saginaw City experienced exceptional growth during the 1850s to 1870s period. The post-Civil War era was one of the most prosperous growth periods in Saginaw history. In fact, the lumber and salt industries obtained their labor from the large immigration to the Saginaw Valley. This course will cover three decades of local history along with some events from the recently published book, Saginaw Adventures With Georg.
