Course Detail: PIPES - Pious Pipes of Saginaw

The organ is the oldest keyboard instrument with examples attested to 300 BC. While the most famous historic organs reside in Europe, there are some notable instruments in our area. This course will consist of a small sample of significant church organs in Saginaw. Class participants will see and hear the organs at Bethlehem Lutheran, Resurrection Lutheran, First Congregational, and First Presbyterian churches at 10 a.m. on March 24, April 7, April 14 and April 21 (all dates are Saturdays). Along with the resident organists who will provide some history and their favorite stops (sounds) of the instrument, long-time organist James Gladstone will lead the class, which will highlight some demonstrative music to show the differences and similarities between the various instruments. OLLI member and organ technician Helmut Schick will provide additional commentary. Class attendees may bring well-behaved children 8 years old or older for free (must pre-register by calling the OLLI office) and will have to supply their own transportation.
